White House immunologist Dr Anthony Fauci has announced the discovery of the first effective coronavirus treatment, which is set to be approved for use later today. Speaking at the White House Wednesday, Dr Fauci said worldwide tests on anti-viral drug Remdesivir showed it had a ‘clear-cut, significant, positive effect in diminishing the time to recovery’ for Covid-19 patients who were treated with it.
He continued: ‘This is really quite important for a number of reasons, it’s highly significant.’ Dr Fauci said the average recovery time in patients given Remdesivir was 11 days, compared to 15 days for Covid-19 patients assigned the placebo, equivalent to a 31% improvement.
He added: ‘What it has proven is that a drug can block this virus. Looking forward, we think this is very optimistic. The mortality rate trended towards being better – 8% (of people given Remdesivir later died) versus 11% (who died after being given the placebo)’ Dr Fauci said Remdesivir’s early success was announced for ethical reasons, to give patients currently suffering from coronavirus a better chance of being treated with a drug now known to be effective.
The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) will now announce Remdesivir as an emergency treatment for Covid-19 sufferers in the United States as early as later today.
The immunologist referenced the battle to find an effective treatment for HIV during the 1980s – which he as a key part of. He added that Remdesivir could potentially be combined with other drugs to yield even better results, just like a combination of medicines have been used to successfully treat HIV.
Dr Fauci’s announcement marks the first big breakthrough in the race to find an effective treatment for coronavirus. He spoke while flanked by a smiling Dr Deborah Birx – the White House coronavirus task force’s coordinator, and President Trump.

Dr Fauci has repeatedly urged caution after President Trump hailed Remdesivir and anti-malaria treatment hydroxychloroquine as potentially powerful Covid-19 treatments, with Wednesday’s announcement his most optimistic announcement since the outbreak began.
Dr Fauci explained that the trial had been conducted by the US National Institute of Allergies and Infectious Diseases, of which he is director. It sponsored the trial, which began on February 21 and involved some patients being given a placebo – dummy treatment – while others were given Remdesivir itself. He described the trial as ‘highly-powered,’ with 1,090 patients given either the drug or the placebo across the world, including in Germany, Greece, Denmark and the UK.
Dr Fauci said independent auditors judged the success of Remdesivir on how quickly it helped coronavirus patients recover. He stressed that Remdesivir is a treatment for people who have already been diagnosed with Covid-19, rather than a cure for the disease, or a preventative to stop it from developing in the first place. Dr Fauci said the race to develop a vaccine to prevent Covid-19 continues, with teams across the world attempting to formulate an effective shot.

Remdesivir was developed by drug company Gilead as an experimental anti-viral treatment it was hoped would treat Ebola. It failed to do so, but now appears to be the first drug that can help Covid-19 patients recover from the new virus

Buhari Govt reveal reasons for increase in COVID-19 cases

The Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 has explained the surge in the number of COVID-19 cases recorded in Nigeria.
Boss Mustapha, Chairman of the Task Force and Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, explained that the surge in cases was due to the expansion of the testing capacities and activities.
Speaking during the Task Force daily briefing in Abuja yesterday, Mustapha said there were evidence of community spread.
He stated that government had introduced the door-to-door testing in some communities in Lagos and Abuja.
According to Mustapha: “Considering the dynamic nature of the response plan, the strategy for testing has been modified and door-to-door testing is now taking place in some communities in Lagos and Abuja.
“Testing, detection, isolation, care and case management remain central to our success in this fight.”
“The situation in Kano continues to be of concern and the PTF is working in close contact with the state government to arrest the situation. The PTF will update you as soon as there are new developments,” he stated.
As at Wednesday, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, had confirmed 91 new COVID-19 cases in Nigeria.
This brings the tally of confirmed cases to 873 in Nigeria.

NOKIA 9.3 PUREVIEW MAY COME WITH UNDER-DISPLAY SELFIE CAMERA

The race for bezel-less smartphones gave birth to trends like waterdrop notches, pop-up cameras, and punch-holes. So far, the only limitation for companies to deliver a truly bezel-less smartphone is the front-facing camera. While companies like Asus adopted a single camera that snaps to the front when needed, not every one of them wants to give up the selfie snapper. After the under-display fingerprints,  OEMs are now working to deliver a proper under-display camera. Several companies such as Oppo, Xiaomi, Huawei, and Samsung already working on it. But which company will be the first to deliver a smartphone with this characteristic? According to a report, it will be HMD Global with its Nokia 9.3 PureView.

The next Nokia flagship could be the smartphone with the most innovative selfie camera of 2020

Earlier this year, we saw a report claiming that the Nokia 9.3 PureView could be one of the first phones to feature this technology. More recently, another report revealed that HMD Global will make its flagship official during Q3 2020. Today, a fresh report from Nokia Power User once again states that the Nokia 9.3 PureView will come with an under-display front-facing snapper. It cites information from a source that is very close to the Finnish firm. According to them, the new smartphone will come with PureDisplay V3 technology.  Besides it, the new handset panel will deliver a 120Hz refresh rate.

No more victim in Nigeria that Still have corona virus, said by member of NCDC

Hello Mr Tunde.

I work In the NCDC (Nigeria)

I am pushed to say this truth that the number of #Covid19 cases are not real.

I am quite close to the graphic artist that works for NCDC.

They have asked him to keep adding numbers everyday so to extort more money and make the case looks really serious.

Please take a study on the graphics on their twitter page.

secondly,

There are no health facilities imported to take real covid tests.

moreover, it is not as if the NCDC are going from houses to Houses to test people. Strong NO!

and These Nigerians that we have, no matter how much the symptoms, because of shame, they will never go to test for Covid19.

it is over 14days of stay at home and no one has come to complain of any symptoms or cases.

and as they said; symptoms appears within 14days.

so tell me who has this thing for real?

NIGERIA IS NOT A FLU COUNTRY

JUST AS MUCH AS AMERICA OR CHINA IS NOT A MALARIA COUNTRY.

These government are deceiving us and the people needs to protest.

Go to twitter.

look at Jide SanwoOlu's page.

he covered faces of Recovered patients yeah?

look at their hair types and attire types .. they seem like downloaded photos.

afterall they said they have recovered.

why can't they let this people talk and they can blur their faces on TV.

why not?

May I ask.

the recovered patients

what medications were rendered?

absolutely nothing and the numbers of people recovering are also rapid?

This shit is not even happening in America that has right medical facilities.

so you believe now that it is just graphics or not?

People that actually really died were not less than 60years of Age and they died of health complications.

and the numbers are just 2.

now the graphics says 11.

How's Atiku's son doing ?

How is Chioma Doing over 14days and no symptoms or medications?

She is completely fine right?

She needs to go for malaria and typhoid treatments and stop depriving the babe of breastfeeding he needs for good 6 months.

The People Needs to strongly protest against lockdown.

WE ALREADY KNOW GOVERNMENT PEOPLE FOR THEIR DISHONESTY.

PEOPLE ARE DYING OF HUNGER.

THERE ARE ROBBERY ATTACKS EVERYWHERE.

PEOPLE CAN NOT SLEEP SAFE.

PLEASE POST THIS TRUTH AS I REMAIN ANONYMOUS.

GOD BLESS YO

Money Heist boss reveals pressure to cut major character from Netflix show

"He's a misogynist, narcissist and psychopath in many ways

Money Heist creator and writer Álex Pina has revealed he came under pressure to cut major character Berlin from the show because of his "out-of-date views".

A charismatic terminally ill jewel thief, Berlin (Pedro Alonso) was actually one of the most popular characters on the Spanish Netflix series, and fans were sad to see him go when he was killed by the police.

However, in the recent Netflix documentary Money Heist: The Phenomenon, Pina revealed that there were calls for him to drop the character from the show entirely because of his misogynistic ways.

"Someone said to me, 'This character doesn't fit with the times. You should take him out of the series," said Pina.
"I said I had no intention of taking him out of the series. He's a misogynist, narcissist and psychopath in many ways.

"But we could have a character like that in the series and the audience could freely decide whose side they're on, right?"
Suggesting that Berlin may have actually been part of the show's appeal, he added: "If television is bland it's boring because less things happen.

"The audience wants things to happen, and there's nothing better than a villain who we can empathise with."
Alonso also appears in the documentary, and it's safe to say he's slightly bemused by his character's popularity.
"People need to get their heads checked because I'm sure he's not the character you'd want your daughter to marry.
  • "[But] that dominant side to him, his leadership, repulses us but it gives us a certain sense of safety."

SEVEN THINGS WE LEARNED FROM POGBA'S UTD PODCAST

Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba had plenty to say on our latest UTD Podcast as he set the record straight on a variety of topics with refreshing honesty.
With the full episode now available on Deezer and other podcast providers, we've selected seven of the most interesting points of discussion - but the list could have been endless from this fascinating and wide-ranging interview!
We discovered which clubs Paul supported in his youth, the players he admired, the team he nearly joined before United, his house-mate during the early days in Manchester, almost getting into fight with Ravel Morrison and his view of the critics.
Furthermore, our no.6 also confirmed what prompted him to pursue a move to Juventus in 2012...
EARLY ARSENAL AFFECTION
Paul said he initially liked Arsene Wenger's Gunners as a child because they had so many of his fellow countrymen on their books. However, he decided to switch to United because one of his brothers supported the Reds.
“I will be honest,” he admitted. “So, at the start, I was an Arsenal fan – obviously because of all the French players, you know. Me and my brother were but my other brother was a Manchester United fan. I couldn’t say anything so I used to love [Thierry] Henry and, because of him, I was an Arsenal fan. Then I changed and went on to choose with my other brother. No Arsenal, I went with the other one, the United fan!”
POGBA'S IDOLS
So, which footballers did the young Paul have posters of on his bedroom wall? He reeled off six names, with barely a hesitation, and they all had attacking flair!
“I had Ronaldinho, Ronaldo, [Zinedine] Zidane, Thierry Henry, Djibril Cisse, Kaka,” he replied
LYON MOVE WAS ON THE CARDS
Many people felt Pogba should have remained in France when deciding to leave Le Havre, and Lyon were closest to snaring the young prodigy. However, when asked how difficult a decision it was to move to England, he answered: “Easy. It’s Manchester United. To be honest, I was about to sign at Lyon so they wanted me to sign professional but, because I say it, people used to talk to me and say: 'Don’t go. Don’t go outside. It’s going to be difficult. Stay in France'. I said: 'No, they’re the biggest club in the world. This comes only once in our life'. I took it. Well, it came twice for me, yes that’s true!
WHO WAS POGBA'S HOUSE-MATE IN DIGS?
Davide Petrucci lived with Paul in their early days in Manchester, after he arrived from Roma. The midfielder, who signed for Ascoli last year, became Reserves captain with the Reds but did not break into the first team.
“I was in digs for the first time and the family were very nice. I am still in contact today with them. They’ve been taking care of me. I was with Davide Petrucci, I was just with Davide and am still in contact with him. Obviously, we grew up together and he is kind of my step-brother, I would say. It was very good. The family were very good with me, with us, and we enjoyed it. We had a really nice family and, obviously an Italian person and a French person, and I couldn’t speak very good English, any English. I started learning and they helped me learn faster. I had to speak English. I started with the hand signals  first and then it came very fast.”

RUMPUS WITH RAVEL
Another of the gifted FA Youth Cup-winning team from 2011 was Ravel Morrison, who is now with Sheffield United, the club Paul McGuinness's side beat in the final. Pogba had this to say about the midfielder:“I have a nice story with Rav. A few weeks after I arrived, and now we’re very good friends, but I will just tell you we almost fought – me and him. So was I training and obviously everyone knows how good Rav is with the ball. He was dribbling [past] players. I took the ball from him and he got angry a bit and kicked me. I couldn’t speak English so I looked at him and [thought] 'that’s okay, I’ll wait until you get the ball [laughs]. I smashed him'. He started talking to me in English and I responded in French. You know, okay we will see after in the changing room. Okay, no problem. I’m not scared of you. After, he came to me and hugged, you know, and, since then, we’re very close. It’s a strange story and funny but that happens a lot in football and now we’re very good friends.”
WHY I LEFT UNITED
The World Cup winner confirmed he decided his future lay elsewhere when he was left on the bench for the Premier League defeat to Blackburn in 2011. “It was a very difficult decision for me, with the manager as well and everything with the contract,” he revealed. “It wasn’t the contract but more like the trust with the manager. Obviously, the manager, for me, is still the best manager in history. When they asked me to sign the contract, if I didn’t sign, a lot of things happened. I didn’t train, I went back to training by myself and stuff like this.
“It made me a bit angry and was nothing about the money. It’s just about you’re a player, we believe in you, you believe in you and, me, I just want to play football. That is all I want. I want to play. When I had, like I’ve said before, the chance to play or to come on in this game against Blackburn, that’s when really I had heartbreak. There was no midfield here – people were injured, [Paul] Scholes wasn’t there, I think he’d retired already and it was before he came back. Rafael played in midfield with Ji-sung Park and I didn’t come on in this game. We lost the game. I was on the bench warming up and I thought I would come on and it was a big opportunity for me. I didn’t and things happen. The manager has a choice in everything but that day is when I had my heart broken. I told Pat [Evra] that was the chance, I’d been training with him and he’d been talking to me and saying I would have a chance. But that happened, I didn’t play and I was kind of upset.
“So I went to Juventus, which was a hard decision for me. Hard because it was going to another club as well where I was obviously not as one of the starting XI but I’ve got to come as a young player. A young, talented player and you have to show yourself again. I went and it was a big challenge for me. I said: 'Go for it, no problem. I want to show I am ready to play for the team'.”
THE CRITICS DON'T AFFECT ME
Pogba has no time for pundits who have singled him out for criticism, admitting he does not need to listen to TV analysis of the live matches. “If they want to speak, they’re allowed to speak,” he said. “That’s their job. For me, it’s their job to speak. They’ve been talking and I’m used to it now. I’m really used to it so it doesn’t bother me. Obviously, it is always good to hear the good stuff and better to hear that than the bad stuff. Like I said, when you play football, you hear stuff but you know yourself, you know your manager and know your team-mates and know what you want. The rest is just talk and selling stuff. I think people like it.
“I’m someone who watches football and stuff but I don’t stay and listen to what they’re going to say after the game and why they have done this. I like to focus on football.”

What a tragedy, for america

America had come together, setting aside all of our own wants and needs, to engage in the single greatest act of human kindness in history. We all stayed home, at great expense and inconvenience, so the most vulnerable among us wouldn’t die a preventable death.
I want you to think about this for a moment, before I continue: there is someone you love, who is at risk of serious infection and death, right now. I am staying home for that person, so you don’t lose someone you love. I am not the only person doing this. You’re doing this. Your family and your neighbors are doing this. We are, all of us, doing this, together, even though it is hard, it is scary, it is frustrating.
But we are doing it, together, because we care about our fellow humans.
A strong, moral, ethical, worthy leader will look at this tremendous sacrifice and ask themselves how they can honor it, how can they keep this going as long as possible, so the sacrifices we’ve made for a few weeks can be extended into months. We are doing this so people do not die.
That bears repeating: we are doing this so people we love do not die a preventable death.
America has the resources to ensure that staying home does not financially ruin anyone who is making this incredible, unprecedented, unselfish sacrifice right now. What America does not have, is the leadership to use those resources.
What America has is a vicious, selfish, incompetent, cruel, abusive, autocratic, impeached president who looked at all this sacrifice, who looked at Americans of all demographics and political beliefs, and saw an entire country setting aside its differences to work together so innocent people -- people we love -- do not die.
This man looked at that, and saw that it was a threat to his ambitions. Forget for a moment that it is entirely his fault that thousands of preventable deaths have occurred, and just reflect that his impulse is NOT to encourage and comfort millions of people who are scared and stressed out, but to hurt us, to abuse us, to risk our lives and the lives of our loved ones, because that man has no empathy, no compassion, no morality of any kind.
Thirty-three thousand humans have died in America since this pandemic hit our shores. According to scientists, 90% NINETY PERCENT of those deaths would not have happened, if only Trump had listened to experts and taken this seriously. If only Trump was a real leader, with compassion, empathy, and competence, tens of thousands of families would not be mourning the loss of a loved one.
America had come together to fight this. We mustered ourselves quickly and we were ready for a leader to help us take this commitment to join together and focus it, so we could get through this crisis as quickly as possible, with minimal disruption.
But the impeached president and his allies failed us. As they have done all along, they have put their narrow self interests ahead of the interests of the country, and ahead of the value of your life.
He is, right now, celebrating a fake “protest” that was organized and paid for by a right-wing organization controlled by the DeVos family. Right now, he is taking people’s fears and anxieties, and instead of using both the bully pulpit and a working relationship with congress to reassure and help them, he’s pouring gasoline on a fire.
And he is doing it because it’s all he knows how to do. This man doesn’t know how to be a leader. He doesn’t know how to be a human being who cares about others. He looked at an entire country coming together, and his impulse was to tear it apart.
Donald Trump looked at the single greatest act of human kindness in the history of our species, and he felt threatened by it. So he is doing everything he can to destroy it, to destroy us.
And for what? To consolidate his own money and his own power.
Rick Wilson says “everything Trump touches dies”. For tens of thousands of innocent Americans, he’s right.
A leader looks at the best impulses of their people in a crisis, and they celebrate, encourage, and support those impulses. A president cares about protecting their citizens above all else.
Trump is neither of those things. Trump is an abusive despot, out of his depth, incompetent and unqualified.
May history record that, when millions of Americans came together, unselfishly, in the greatest act of human kindness in history, Trump saw a threat to be destroyed.
We are nowhere near the end of this. We are probably not even at the end of the beginning of this. Trump, his fearful supporters, and his angry cultists, are going to make things so much worse than they would have been, because it’s all they know how to do.
What a tragedy.
