Chelsea endured a nightmare start to their defence of the Premier League title. Gary Cahill's early dismissal summed up their afternoon against Burnely as the Clarets stunned Antonio Conte's men as a brace from Sam Vokes and a strike from Stephen Ward put them 3-0 ahead. Alvaro Morata and David Luiz put the pressure on in the second half, but it was not enough to salvage a point. The Blues need a response today against Spurs, who will be desperate to add to their woes.
Spurs started the season with a comfortable win over Newcastle United after Jonjo Shelvey was dismissed early in the second half at St James' Park. They had been frustrated for the opening 48 minutes, but once the midfielder was sent off space opened up and Dele Alli and Ben Davies fired them to the victory. Tottenham drew too many matches at the start of the last campaign - therefore to win the title this time around they need a stronger effort.
Tottenham begin life away from White Hart Lane against the Blues, having struggled in their matches at Wembley last season.
